Vigil tv series

BBC has a new crime drama offering coming soon to your screens. Vigil, BBC One's submarine thriller, is headlined by Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack, Doctor Foster) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, The Good Fight).

Vigil revolves around a suspicious death aboard the HMS submarine Vigil and the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler. Set to be released by BBC in August 2021, find out how to watch episodes ahead of its premiere here.

Vigil TV series preview

From the creators of Line of Duty and Bodyguard, Vigil is a six-part series that follows an investigation on land and at sea when a Scottish fishing trawler mysteriously vanished and a man died on board the Trident nuclear submarine, HMS Vigil. The circumstances surrounding these crimes only baffle the authorities and bring the police into conflict with the Royal Navy and British security services.

It stars Suranne Jones as DCI Amy Silva, who is sent to investigate the missing fishing trawler and a death on-board the nuclear submarine. She is joined by DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) and, together, they lead an investigation that could potentially uncover a conspiracy that goes to the heart of Britain's national security. The missing fishing trawler and the death on board a submarine will likely be related and it is up to DCI Amy Silva to discover the shocking connection.

Set in Scotland, the series is created and written by BAFTA-nominated writer Tom Edge and directed by BAFTA winner James Strong, and Isabelle Sieb. It is a limited series that will consist of six episodes and will premiere on BBC One. Vigil has an ensemble cast that also stars Shaun Evans (Endeavour, Whitechapel), Anjli Mohindra (Bodyguard, Bancroft), Adam James (I May Destroy You, Life), Paterson Joseph (Law & Order: UK, Timeless) and Martin Compston (Line Of Duty, Mary Queen Of Scots).

The new limited series has been greenlit based on the success of recent programming of the same style, such as Line of Duty and Bodyguard. Both shows achieved much success and were created and released by the same production company, World Productions, as well as written and created by Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominee Jed Mercurio. Vigil is actress Rose Leslie's latest starring role after her main appearances on Game of Thrones and The Good Fight, as well as Suranne Jones' newest show alongside Save Me and Gentleman Jack.
